A Happy New Year (and Belated Merry Christmas…)

It’s been a while since the last post… I was out of country for a little over a week, and was too busy enjoying the vacation…

This time, we went to a all inclusive resort in Ocho Rio, Jamaica.
Except for the first couple days, the weather was amazing! Nice sunny days with 80Fª, with occasional shower. What we loved so much was that there are no bugs! well… almost, no bugs. In the evening, I may get a couple mosquito bites if I’m sitting around a bush.

Overall the resort was Good.
They offer quite a few water sports (Snorkeling, Kayaking, Wind Surfing, etc), wall cLimbing, and various out side sports, as well as pool table, board games, all for free.

There were a long lists of events through out a day, such as bingo, scavenger hunt, beech/pool valley ball, dance night, shows, drinking games etc. However, either they were scheduled too early in the morning, or too late (well, for us… many shows and dance party etc was around 9:00 PM so for most people it shouldn’t be too too late.. lol), and we could not take advantage of…

Considering being all inclusive resort in Caribbean, my wife and I were expected unlimited supply of fresh, ripened fruits anytime, anywhere we wanted… Unfortunately, it was not the case. choice of fruits were limited to Papaya, Melon, Water Melon, Banana, (not-so-sweet) Oranges, Pineapples and apples, and they were not so readily available. At the breakfast buffet, they always had some fruits, but our favorite, Papaya was not always there… Once Breakfast is closed, we could find fruits only at a couple restaurants and we even had to ask for it…

Drink was great. Since we can’t drink alcohol much, we couldn’t take full advantage of all inclusive, but fresh fruits for blended drinks were always available at many of the bars. And to be honest, I enjoyed those fruit smoothies more than most of the alcoholic drinks we tried…

the biggest downside was the restaurants… The problem was both number of selections, as well as the food quality.
though there were 15 restaurants in the resort, only two available for the lunch, and they serve not so different selection from day to day. Handful of the restaurants around lunch time also has only a limited selection. For dinner, there were more than enough restaurants for us to try different ones while we stayed there.
Only a few meals during our stay was good enough for us to be truly satisfied. Over all, things were a bit on sweet side, and they were kind of bland… Their Jamaican dishes, such as Jerk Chicken/Pork, traditional steamed fish, Callaloo (Green Vegetable), etc were very good, and I loved them. However, their other restaurants like Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Mediterranean, etc, were very so so at the best… For us who don’t drink much, and just want to have good food and relax, this was a big disappointment…
