Now back from Kyoto, SWMBO had one more day in Japan, so we decided to hung out with my high school friends we headed to Tokyo.
First, we stopped for a quick breakfast (meat pie) at a bakery in local train station.
My grandmother’s house is a little over an hour away from the Tokyo Station. Tokyo Station is like a dungeon….
very confusing even with those maps…they even have a small shopping mall inside of the station…After a long wondering around in the station, we finally meet up with my friend and his wife, and then head out to have a better view of newly renovated Tokyo Station.
Then, we took taxi to Ginza area, where my friend made a reservation for the lunch.
Then we caught taxi to a restaurant for lunch.
Taxi is very expensive in Japan. just a few minutes ride cost us over $10 easily…
The restaurant name was Love, with Chinese character for Pork as “v” sounds.3 different kinds of Tofu as an appetizerThe lunch is all you can it Shabu-Shabu, a Japanese style hotpot. Unusual about this place is that they cook huge pile of shredded green onions in broth first.Surprisingly the green onion’s sweetness matches very well with the fatty pork.Yuzu-Kosho, a spicy pepper paste with citrus flavor. Very refreshing taste.Adding yuzu-kosho into the soy sauce base soup, and it will become a great compliment to the boiled pork w/ green onions. We also ordered spicy and non spicy sesame paste dipping sauce as well.
After lunch, we went to a toy store and then start walking the most expensive land per square meter… Which is about $270,000 US dollar / 1 square meter (a little less than 11 sq. feet)
Unfortunately the weather was not coping with us, so after a few stops at stores along the street, we went to a coffee shop to get some rest.Orange juice and Iced Coffee. About $8…. Of course no-refil…
And Cakes. Strawberry shortcake.
Mont. Blanc (chestnut cake)$13 Parfait. it was bit too sweet for me…For dinner / drinking, we went to Tsukishima, where Monja-Yaki is famous for.Monja-Yaki is a popular drinking food in Tokyo area, and basically a DIY Hibachi kinda thing..Pour the cabbage and other ingredients on to the hot grill, then, chop. once cooked, pour the rest of the soup / flour mix in center, and then eat using a small flat spoon.
I made the picture of actual food small, since it is not a pretty looking food… however, unlike somewhat disgusting look, the flavor is great. and it matches with drinks really well! To be honest, the the Monja-Yaki is not something pretty to look at… it’s almost well… kind of yiky looking thing…
That’s it for the days that both SWMBO (AKA My Wife) and I spent time in Japan…
I have a few more pictures from the days after she left Japan… so keep scrolling!
I meat with my friend one more time after that day, and this time we went to have a seafood grill pub.
this is ScalopThe fall is in season for Sanma, a type of salt water fish.
Another day, my uncle took me grandmother and my mom to a small fisherman’s town near by. I also went to a small fisherman’s town near my grandmother’s house one day

And.. Finally my last day in Japan…
on our way to the Airport, we stopped at a rest area on highway, and I just couldn’t help stopping by to order Gyudon (Beef on Rice) Breakfast combo…
well.. I already had breakfast before we left, but just couldn’t help.. Gyudon (Beef on rice bowl) and Miso soup. all this for less than $3…
